1. Introduction
ModernBroke ("ModernBroke", "we", "us", or "our") operates the website modernbroke.com (the "Site") and provides related social media content under the @themodernbroke brand across YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms (collectively, the "ModernBroke Service" or "Service").
This Privacy Policy describes how ModernBroke collects, uses, and shares information when you use the ModernBroke Service. By using the ModernBroke Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the ModernBroke Service.
2. Information We Collect
ModernBroke collects the following types of information:
2.1 Information You Provide Voluntarily
- Quiz Responses: When you complete the ModernBroke archetype quiz, we collect your answers to the seven multiple-choice questions and your assigned archetype result (Brad, Emily, Tyler, Sarah, Rachel, Daniel, or Marcus).
- Email Address: If you opt in to receive content updates from ModernBroke, we collect the email address you provide.
- Contact Communications: If you contact ModernBroke via the contact form or email, we collect the contents of your message and any contact information you choose to provide.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the ModernBroke Service, we automatically collect:
- Usage Data: Pages visited, time spent on each page, referrer URL, browser type, device type, operating system, and approximate geographic location (city/region level, derived from IP address).
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: See Section 5.
- UTM Parameters: If you arrive at ModernBroke via a tracked link (e.g., from a YouTube or Instagram post), we collect the UTM source, medium, and campaign parameters.
2.3 Information from Third-Party Services
When you interact with ModernBroke content on third-party platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and others), those platforms may share aggregate analytics with ModernBroke. We do not directly access your personal account on those platforms unless you explicitly grant such access (which is not currently required to use the ModernBroke Service).
3. How We Use Information
ModernBroke uses collected information to:
- Deliver the archetype quiz experience and assign your result
- Improve the ModernBroke Service through aggregate usage analysis
- Send you content updates if you have opted in via email
- Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service
- Comply with legal obligations
- Develop new editorial content and features for the ModernBroke Service

ModernBroke does not sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
ModernBroke uses the following cookies and similar technologies:
- Strictly Necessary Cookies: Required for the Site to function (e.g., session ID for the archetype quiz, stored in localStorage).
- Analytics Cookies: Google Analytics 4 cookies used to understand aggregate Site usage. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.
ModernBroke does not currently use advertising or remarketing cookies. If this changes, we will update this Privacy Policy and notify users via the Site.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling strictly necessary cookies may impair Site functionality (e.g., the quiz will not save your progress).
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 All Users
You may request that ModernBroke:
- Provide you with a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correct any inaccurate personal information
- Delete your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Restrict our processing of your personal information
- Object to our processing of your personal information

6.2 California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including:
- The right to know what personal information ModernBroke collects, uses, discloses, and sells (we do not sell)
- The right to delete personal information ModernBroke has collected from you
- The right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell)
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights

6.3 European/UK Residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Union, United Kingdom, or European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
ModernBroke is based in the United States. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses for any data transfers from the EU/UK/EEA to the United States.
6.4 Email Opt-Out
If you have opted in to receive emails from ModernBroke and wish to unsubscribe, click the unsubscribe link in any email or contact us at the address in Section 11.
7. Data Retention
ModernBroke retains your information as follows:
- Quiz responses and archetype results: 24 months from completion, then anonymized for aggregate analytics
- Email addresses: Until you unsubscribe or request deletion
- Usage analytics: 26 months (Google Analytics 4 default)
- Contact form messages: 12 months from last response
We may retain information longer if required by law or to resolve disputes.
8. Children's Privacy
The ModernBroke Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. ModernBroke does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe ModernBroke has collected information from a child under 13, contact us at the address in Section 11 and we will delete that information promptly.
For users between 13 and 17, parental consent is recommended before sharing personal information with ModernBroke.
9. Security
ModernBroke uses commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information, including:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted database storage via Supabase
- Restricted access to production systems on a need-to-know basis
- Regular security review of third-party integrations
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. ModernBroke cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
ModernBroke may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via:
- A notice on the modernbroke.com homepage
- An updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy
- If you have provided an email address, an email notification
Continued use of the ModernBroke Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
